Beautiful Wooded Trail Ride in the Cascades

We truly enjoyed riding the Norwegian Fjord ponies for our trail ride with Cascade corral. We have done trail rides in the past at other vacation destinations and these horses were some of the nicest, sure footed, well-behaved trail horses. The scenery is gorgeous and some parts of the trail are a bit steep and rocky but these horses are so solid and sure that there were no worries. We even saw a mother bear and 2 cubs in the distance at one point! Great ride!

A beautiful horseback ride to Coon Lake
This was one of the most beautiful horseback rides I've ever been on. There were hilly areas, lots of trees, a rock slide area, and then in the middle we stopped at Coon Lake for a beautiful view. I highly recommend this activity if you find yourself in Stehekin.

The Corral is at the head of the lake and run in conjunction with Stehekin Lodge.
Either visitors at the Lodge or visitors staying lower on the lake and taking the ferry to the Lodge could ride the horses. The horses are all Norwegian Fjord Breed. These are shorter than some breeds and very surefooted. All rides are scheduled ahead and supervised by trail guides. This is good as the trails are not well marked and the countryside is so beautiful that I was too busy looking to worry about which trail I needed to take! We were on the first ride this season and the wild flowers were everywhere. The cost of $65 for a two hour ride is very fair. Our ride even lasted a bit longer. The equipment was well maintained, the horses friendly and the guides knowledgeable.
