Miro!

It was the first time that I visited this museum. I came to see the exposition of Miro. It was nice and this exhibition is definitely worth a visit. Maybe I had expect a little bit more ..... if I compare it with the museum I visited in Barcelona .... but tit was worth the trip and Mons is a nice little town to wander around for a few hours.

    Anto-Carte. Heaven and Earth exhibition
We love the Museum of Fine Arts of Mons or ‘le BAM’ (short for ‘Beaux-Arts Mons’), as the locals call it. From outside the building in the narrow rue Neuve is rather unattractive but inside it is bright and modern. The reception and shop area is spacious and welcoming. The different levels are connected by a lift and sloping ramps, so there are no stairs, which is a nice feature. The upstairs windows provide a surprising view on a house bearing the date 1636 and a number of upright standing gargoyles from a former convent. In the past we saw interesting BAM exhibitions about Fernando Botero (2021) and the French poet Paul Verlaine (2016). This time we used our Belgium Museum Pass to visit the exhibition ‘Anto-Carte. Heaven and Earth’ dedicated to Belgian painter, lithographer and illustrator Anto-Carte (1886 - 1954), who was born in Mons and died in Ixelles (Brussels). The exhibition focuses on Anto-Carte’s very personal interpretation of biblical themes and confronts his work with that of other artists in the collections of Mons, who have been inspired by the same themes. We enjoyed roaming the almost empty museum while reading the extensive visitor’s guide. We highly recommend a visit to BAM.
