Very interesting museum of Novi Sad
City Museum of Novi Sad is a museum located in the Petrovaradin Fortress, in the second biggest town of Serbia. It is a very interesting museu, where you can learn about the recent history of Novi Sad (from the end of 19th Century to nowadays) and you can read about the NATO bombing in 1999 in the city, where some bridges were destroyed, so it is an interesting perspective, of you are interested in the rich history in this part of Europe. Also, here you can see buy the tickets to do a guided tour in the Catacombs, which is also very interesting. (See also Petrovaradin Caracombs and Petrovaradin Fortress)

History of the city
In one of the former barracks of the Petrovaradin Fortress you will find the Novi Sad City Museum. Established in 1954- as says the sign - it is open for visiting from 9 o'clock in the morning - for a fee of about 300 or so dinars. It is not very extensive but for sure you will spend between 1 and 2 hours. If you are into history I would say it will be interesting to you - and into military history. It is not very big but for sure it is very interesting and definitely gives you an insight about the history of Novi Sad and Petrovaradin fortress. The only detractor for the tour's value is the fact that not all the items on display have there english description so unless you can read and understand serbian / cyrillic some of the explanation will remain a mystery - or you can use a software for translation. If you are in Petrovaradin check out the Novi Sad city museum - it is worth it for sure.

Worth it for views, building and siege well
The setting is superb. It is worth visiting the museum purely for that and for the interior. Please note that you need to pay with CASH! (A street vendor just outside facing the museum will change Euros etc, by the way) The first floor is about social history, mainly seen through furniture, furnishings and pictures. The ground floor is about archaeology medieval times and the World Wars, with various rifles, cannon and artillery pieces to view. There is a tunnel down to a huge siege well, which I found the most memorable aspect, since the rest is interesting but not remarkable.
