    A Great Visit
I've been visiting Old Town in Alexandria, VA since 1963. Old Town has evolved to a great place to visit and walk on both sides of King Street, which are lined with a variety of restaurants and shops. The latter are on the pricey side. However, the trees that line the streets are lit at night with Christmas like lights and make for a festive atmosphere. You have a variety of places to kick back for a meal; pub fare to some restaurants that offer value and great food. In the summer months there are street entertainers near the Torpedo Factory or the new park near the river. A great place go to or meet friends for drinks or a meal. Some of the bar/restaurants have live music. There are also nightly candle light tours of some of the historic sites. To me, its more family friendly and way cleaner than New Orleans.

    walkable
I found this to be a very walkable town but beware, no spike heels! Most of the area is brick or cobblestone paving. We felt very safe there, even at night. Some very nice, older homes. Unfortunately, many shops are closed Sunday & or Monday. Even the Torpedo Art Gallery is only open 4 days a week.
