Historic Jamestowne, Virginia, United States

Awesome, but expensive.

Historic Jamestowne is the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and Preservation Virginia.

    Awesome, but expensive.
This a very unique and great experience. Amazing seeing the 400 year old ruins and the current digs they have going on. Got great information from one person working there on some current things they are doing(looking forward to seeing this in the future). The archeology museum is fantastic, filled with things dug there and lots of information. All that being said, 30 dollars per person makes it hard to want to revisit anytime soon. The admission only includes this area and the archeology museum, not the rebuilt jamestown and ships.

    Wonderful visit
Two seniors spent about 1 1/2 days touring both Historic Jamestowne (part of the National Park Services’ Colonial National Historic Park) and the adjacent Jamestowne Rediscovered (part of Preservation Virginia) in late September 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a return trip in more years than we care to remember and much has changed for the better. Numerous special free events/tours are held each day. We went on the first NPS Ranger-led orientation walk of the day for about 45 minutes. A good introduction to the NPS part of Jamestowne. Then we immediately afterwards took a Jamestowne Rediscovered archaeology tour of Jamestowne Fort and locations with a staff archaeologist. Both were absolutely excellent. There are numerous digs being done in the Jamestowne Rediscovered areas. They also have a small cafe (great Carolina pulled port sandwiches the day we were there, but expensive at about $32 with two refillable iced teas and tax) and a good-sized museum of some of the many artifacts found on site. We spent from 9am to 5pm on the first day and then returned for another three hours another day. YMMV but we love this stuff and read almost everything. There is so much history here plus a first class archaeological museum. We decided to spend a week in the Williamsburg area so we purchased the America's Historic Triangle Ticket with seven consecutive days' admission for Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Jamestowne/Jamestowne Rediscovered, Jamestown Settlement, American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, and Yorktown Battlefield. Other ticket combinations are also available. See their website.
