Probably the most scenic drive in Australia
My wife and I drove along The Great Ocean Road during our recent holiday in Torquay, where we stayed for two nights at The Sands Golf Resort. This was our eighth drive along the Great Ocean Road, as it is probably the most scenic drives in Australia. We visited a few places that we had not stopped at in our previous drives. In Fairhaven, we stopped to have a look at the famous "Pole House", which is a house built upon a pole with panoramic views of the ocean. Accommodation in the Pole House starts from $950 a night, with a minimum booking of two nights. We might stay here sometime in future, for the experience.

Amazing Road Trip
Second time doing this coastal trip and still amazed. A must do. There are so many lovely stops on the way. Lorne is quite lovely and the 12 apostles is a highlight of the trip. Even on a day with bad weather, it’s still unbelievably beautiful.

Australian beauty
I highly recommend renting a car in Melbourne and driving the Great Ocean Road, you will see all of the little things, the peaceful moments and the grand beauty of this Australian "must do", at your pace, rather than a tour operator's, and this will be a vacation highlight and forever memory. We left Melbourne in a rental car and drove along the Great Ocean Road, stopping about half way to the Twelve Apostles, and checking into the Mantra Hotel in Lorne for two nights. We enjoyed our hotel and an afternoon of short drives to unbelievable beach scenes where we walked along the water edge and spent time with wild cockatoos. The next day we drove along the Great Ocean Road's scenic beauty of pastures and forests, farmlands, oceans views and vistas stopping when and where we chose to enjoy the scenery, go for a hike, in the calm and peace of just the two of us. At one point, we saw a few cars pulled over and we pulled over and there were Koalas out in the wild in the eucalyptus trees. We especially enjoyed the mama Koala with baby clinging to her. The Twelve Apostles was magnificent, but we actually enjoyed the drive with it's stops as much, if not more, than the final grand display of the Twelve Apostles. We drove back to Lorne that night, enjoyed a nice meal and drove home the next day. It was a perfect day.
