St Georges Lake is a place that I have never visited despite visiting Creswick many times. This time we decided to finally make a visit. We folllowed our GPS which took us the long way around via the dirt road which was very frustrating. When we arrived I was surprised at the size of the water body and the amount of people visiting. it had been a very hot day though. There were people camping, having a picnic, swimming and using non-motorised sporting equipment. A surprise find in Creswick but I guess there is no beach nearby.

A very peaceful place to walk
We have been in Creswick a few days so decided to go out to the Lake which is only a couple of minutes from the Main Street off the Melbourne road. We had a great walk around the lake, the track is ordinary so if you have walking troubles forget the walk, it was nice walking beside the lake in theshade of the pines and other trees . The tree roots form a pattern on the pathway like artwork, be careful not to trip on them. The thick bark on the pines is like a piece of art as well, they have grown well , tall and as straight as a arrow. There was a young man there fishing, he had caught two very nice redfin, a nice lunch . We had a picnic lunch there, good tables and benches available beside the water, There are also toilet facilities there as well beside the car park area. Very pleasant with plenty of birdlife.

Scenic lake is a fine place for a picnic
Creswick is a town in the Goldfields region of Victoria -- it's a short drive from Ballarat. It's a popular holiday destination. St Georges Lake is a relaxing place for a picnic or a swim. This part of the state has a mild temperature in summer. By the way, if you care to cast a line you may catch a worthwhile fish.
