Murray River, Victoria, Australia

Magnificent
After visiting in school holidays (September) and seeing Murray swollen, unfortunately a month later floods affected many towns like Echuca. Nonetheless, it is a might aquatic snake that draws me often for a nature break. Red gums, tributaries, different vistas all along. Peaceful murky home for cod and yellow belly. Always restorative. One day will try a houseboat.

Delight for all ages
Sailing on an old steamboat and on a slow river sounds like a boring waste of time. We took a trip on ps Canberra and did not regret a minute. Looking at the river from a boat is an exciting, yes, exciting experience. The boat travels faster than I imagined both up and down the river. There is a great restaurant at the end of the trip that can be interrupted for a meal with local wine. The original fine-tuned steam engine is visible and exciting to look at. Beth, the boat operator was practically born on the steamer and is incredibly funny. In short, this was one of the highlights of Echuca.

Mighty Murray and Echuca Port
The Echuca Port area has several vantage points where you can observe the paddle steamers berthed here. Downstream there are the modern houseboats moored to the banks. If you walk alongside the river toward the city through the port area there are food and retail outlets along with historical items and buildings. When you arrive at the park alongside the Civic Centre there is easy access to the river banks.
