MCG Billy Joel concert

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's largest, oldest and most popular sporting venue. The MCG has hosted plenty of international cricket, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. It also hosted the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Other sporting spectacles include FIFA World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin and international rugby union clashes. Apart from its sporting events, the MCG has also witnessed many blockbuster music concerts, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass there when he visited Melbourne in 1986. The MCG has a total capacity of 100,024 people, comprising 95,024 seats and 5000 standing room spaces. The stadium also houses the National Sports Museum, which includes some of the most priceless pieces of memorabilia in Australian sporting history.

    A sports lovers delight
I did the tour in September’22 and enjoyed every second. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and friendly. Seeing behind the scenes was great and the sports museum is spectacular especially the Shane Warne hologram. Being able to enter the arena (albeit not onto the playing surface was an added bonus.

Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test
Saw day 2 of the 2nd Test v NZ with my 13 yo son. 1st time at the G. As a stadium it didn't disappoint even though the was nothing spectacular about the actual cricket that day. The food prices on offer didn't seem as expensive as other stadiums I've been too recently. What was disappointing was that the National Sports museum was closed for refurbishment - I find that amazing that they would close the museum during one of the nations iconic sporting events in peak holiday season. The other more disappointing thing was the lack of transport getting from the MCG back to the CBD. There seemed to be no extra trams to take the 50-odd thousand people to wherever they needed to go. As far as I could see there were very long queues for the trams and most people just walked. Not being from Melbourne, maybe I missed something ... but I had a lot of friends! If I get to go again, I definitely do some more research in getting to/from the stadium
