Lots to do at Lake Wendouree
This scenic lake is located in the heart of Ballarat. It is famous for being the venue for the rowing regatta for the 1956 Olympic Games, which makes Ballarat an Olympic city. Besides regular use for competitive rowing, it is also used for sailing and fishing. There's a hiker-biker track around the lake, which is often used for cycle racing. The paddle boats are fun for families; prices are quite inexpensive. Lake Wendouree makes a scenic backdrop to the Ballarat Botanic Gardens.

    Makes for a nice walk
An easy walking track around the lake; you could easily spend an hour or two making your way around. Lots of bird life hanging around as well. Plenty of parking is available, and there's good amounts of green spaces to have a picnic. You also pass by the Olympic memorial and a children's playground as you make your way around the lake. Visiting in the warmer weather meant we observed lots of families and pets taking a dip in the water, fishing, paddle boarding and boating.
