Isla de Tabarca, Valencian Country, Spain

A must see

A gem of a find just off the coast from Santa Pola. It has all the charm of a place untouched for 50 years. Don’t take notice of the 1 star reviews. Walk further away from the boat drop off point towards the church. There you’ll find a restaurant and cafe that doesn’t offer fish and chips or 2 pints of Stella for 5 euro. Immerse yourself in a little bit of old Spain before you head back to the mainland. As for the boat return fare of 10 euro - a bargain. Beautiful beaches and a easy walking path around the entire island - lots to see. Spend the day and enjoy!

    Amazing snorkelling
Crystal clear water. Literally thousands of fish incredible if you love snorkelling like I do. I was staying in Santa Pola for a week and went to Tarbaca 3 times because loved it so much. I found the fastest and most efficient ferry was the cataraman and smaller red speedboat ,(both the same company and you can use either boat.) and cost €10 return the same as all the other boats, much nicer staff too. For the first two to trips I used the bigger blue ferries (white and orange companies). They were very slow and by the time you have waited for the ferries to fill and leave you can be sitting on the boat for well over an hour. The smaller red ferry and cataraman have done 4 trips there and back in the meantime!. Best snorkelling spots were to your right when you get off the ferry. Didnt eat on the island so cant comment on the food

It's OK... but could be nicer
This almost barren island is one of the most advertised spots at the Alicantine coast, and one can hardly resist taking a boat trip from the city port. And yet, I would not recommend it, at least not if you want to enjoy a day of swimming and a quite lunch: firstly, Tabarca is overcrowded even in the post-pandemic conditions, and finding a free table after noon is a struggle; secondly, the beach is stony and you will scratch your feet when entering, and quite probably, while swimming as there are plenty of stones underwater. I must confess I didn't have any equipment for underwater watching, under perhaps that was my mistake as most other visitors did. The water is clear and the turquoise colour is extremely nice, but so it is at the mainland San Juan or Muchavista beaches, sandy and easily reachable. Apart from the sun- and waterbathing, Tabarca doesn't have much (actually, anything) to offer, so it is debatable whether it is worth your EUR 20 (the price of the return ticket from Alicante in July 2020).
