100 years old and still turning heads
Once upon a time, letters and telegraphs were the way the world communicated. The transmittal of vital information would have taken place here. This is actually more of a Palace of Communications and the winged figures at the top are ever-present reminders of the time when mail and telegraph were king. The winged figures hold bolts of electricity or letters in their extended hands. And there is a metal tower/cage more than 98 feet tall on the very top. It is a combination of Baroque, Neoclassical, and Modernistic. Today, it is owned by the tax collector and is awaiting a new use.

Magnificent
Harking back to a time in the early 1900s when letters and telegrams were kings of written communication the gorgeous edifice cogently proves their importance. Opposite the City Hall, it’s a magnificent building. Atop is a metal tower with a spiral staircase to access a viewing platform. In the tympanum is a sculpture of five figures representing the continents. On each side of the crowning tower is a trio of angels waving letters and telegraphic items.

Pretty Building
Old central Valencia is a great place to walk around and it is packed with lots of things to do or see in such close quarters. The facade of this post office building is very impressive. One cannot but wonder at the care and effort involved in the decorative finishing. Combined with other things to see in the Ayuntamiento plaza, you can budget a minimum of 30 minutes.
