Aigües Termals de Montanejos, Valencian Country, Spain

4.5 (393 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Province of Castellon Hot Springs & Geysers

Beautiful spot

It’s about 1-1.5 hours from Valencia, we drove and parked in the village which was very easy. It was a nice 20 minute walk to the springs (it’s not that well sign posted from montanejos though and it felt like we’d come to the wrong place at first!) It was a windy and chilly day but plucked up the courage to go in - as others have said it is not hot. I imagine on a hot day it’s really pleasant but it took a bit of courage to go in in April and it was ‘invigorating’ we sat by the springs and read for a while with a coffee from the site. We then went for lunch in the village which was good! A good day trip, if you’re in Valencia for a while.

Pine clad canyons and thermal rivers. Amazing stuff
Montanejos is a pretty village in the Alta Mijares region of Castellon. This is a dramatic and beautiful part of Spain, heavily forested with many canyons, fast rivers and pretty villages. The town itself has many hotels, some with natural spas, and many bars, for this area, although relatively unknown to Brits, is very popular with the Spanish. The real attraction of the area is the river Mijares which flows dramatically through a series of gorges from the embalse above. Canyoning and canoeing are popular together with cliff climbing in the gorge. But to me the greatest pleasure is swimming from the small beach at the beginning of the gorge. Here the water is crystal clear and warmed by thermal springs from the nearby cliffs. I have swam up the gorge in January and the water temperature was fine. There are loads of walks round here, a cafe by the beach and a lovely picnic area. Enjoy. Pedroofpobla

    Unique, beautiful
Unique location. Beautiful surroundings and accessible for everyone. But very touristic and looks like it gets very busy in high-season. You can enjoy this place the best if you have special shoes to deal with the pebbles (there is no sand) and if you can swim, so you can go around the corner through the crevasse and get close to the actual thermals.
