Two free bastions and Ehrenvärd's Trail

The construction of Loviisan Linnake (Loviisa Fortress, bastions Ungern and Rosen) started in 1748. Nowadays Ungern is in better condition. The restoration of Rosen has also started. There are interesting plants around Rosen, e.g. introduces species (non-indigenous species, alien species) like war adventives and traffic adventives. There isn't very much to see in these bastions. If you only want to see them, it takes 10 minutes. However, I recommend that you walk along Ehrenvärd's Trail. The path is 2 kilometres long and there are information boards about the history of the fortress on the route. Texts are in Finnish, Swedish and English. It is easy to visit these bastions. You can walk there from the city center of Loviisa (the distance from the church of Loviisa is about one kilometre) or you can drive your car next to these bastions (write "Ungernin pysäköintipaikka" in your navigator). There isn't any admission fee and these bastions are open 24/7.

    Ungern and Rosen Fortresses
Old road between viipuri and Turku went between these two fortress. The other fortress is restored, while the other is just protected to prevent further damages. You can feel here the old world when this kind of place was needed to protect people and towns.

    Nice for a picnic
Your basic castle ruin but we had a lovely picnic here, bet it's fab for the theater they hold here in summer! We did a walking loop from the central green to the fortress ruin, down past the marina to the beach and back through the forest on the ridge which was really beautiful and peaceful in the afternoon sun. At the southern end of the forest there is a spectacular 3-story lookout platform. Lovely views from there!
