Fascinating history & prohibition exhibition
I was taken to the museum by someone who lives nearby and was fascinated by the exhibits and local history (from 500 B.C.E. through to 1950s). They also had an exhibition on Finland’s prohibition. Given that my home country didn’t have prohibition, the concept was unfamiliar! The effort that was put into securing alcohol was noteworthy. It is well worth visiting. The whole museum was exceedingly well-curated, with Finnish, Swedish and English descriptions of all exhibits.

I Love This Place
This may sound weird but the energies in the garden is are so peaceful. When I sit there and enjoy a cup of coffee all my problems disappear. The museum is not big but it has everything you need. There is the permanent exhibition with local stuff and then there are different exhibitions throughout the year. The staff is friendly. The café has the best coffee in town and a nice selection of cakes. It also sells merc from the museum. You buy the tickets at the café as well.

Nice little museum friendly staff
Easy to find nice little museum. It takes you from the earliest period through to modern times. All exhibits are labeled in English, Finnish and Swedish. I noticed that many artifacts come from the local area and have been loaned to the museum by the Finnish National Museum in Helsinki. There are three levels the ground floor where you enter is the ancient to modern times section. The same floor and upper is dedicated to the Finnish school and education system. The lower floor was dedicated to the artist Helene Schjerfbeck who lived in the Tammisaari area. There was a small cafe in the complex but we did not visit it. The staff were very helpful and more than willing to answer our questions.
