Natural History Museum, Uusimaa, Finland

4.5 (532 reviews) Spent Ranking #8 in Helsinki Natural History Museums

Good of you are interested in animals and history of evolution

The museum mostly shows stuffed/ conservated animals. The animals are nicely prepared and the museum tries to show them in their natural habitat and in their natural environment. The visit in total took us about 2h. I believe if you have small children it can take longer. The price is a little high for what the museum shows I would say. Probably I am a little biased, since we have a similar museum where I live and it costs less, yet if even larger. But still, if you like seeing animals and are interested in history of evolution, then it's worth a visit.

    Expensive but good museum
Good museum in a central location, only short walk away from the train station and bus terminal. The entry fee is a bit steep but you are allowed to come and go from the museum with the same ticket during the day, and the lockers for your belongings are free. There is also a lunch cafe on site, which seemed to be fairly decent and not too expensive. The museum itself spans several floors and is very nicely laid out, allowing you to view everything in orderly fashion. Information is available in three languages, but on some occasions English is missing. Overall it’s a good museum worth the visit if you are interested in the subject, and if you happen to have children I’m sure they’ll enjoy it as well.

    Wonderful dioramas
The natural history museum is very near to the centre, it is located in a fascinating, XIX century, building. The animals, representing the worldwide natural habitats and the Finnish biodiversity, are shown in wonderful dioramas. The last floor is dedicated to the evolution of the life on earth with some dinosaurs’ skeletons. There is even a section of comparative anatomy, not that frequent, in similar museums, (in Paris, there is a separated museum). The admittance ticket is 17,00€, quite expensive, but it’s wort the visit. There is a cafeteria next to the entrance but you have also a little picnic area in the last floor. Covid-19 certificate is mandatory.
