The realm of childhood

The idea for a toy and play museum first emerged in 1984, when the children’s charity Children’s Day Foundation launched a toy collection to form the basis for the new toy museum. The Foundation wanted to promote children’s culture by setting up the Linnanmäki amusement park as a place for the whole family to enjoy, bringing different generations together. The Linnanmäki Toy and Play Museum was opened in April 1996. In 2006, the toy museum moved into the WeeGee Exhibition Centre in Tapiola, Espoo, where the museum was run by the Children’s Day Foundation. In 2010, the association of friends of the Hevosenkenkä children’s theatre took the museum under its wings. The museum and theatre now form a unique partnership both in Finland and on a worldwide scale.

    Great place for birthday parties!
We have had our kids's birthday party, and also been there for friend's birthday party, we never get bored! The hosts are attentive, and very good with children. Workshops are run very smoothly, and are mostly very engaging for the children. :)

Nostalgic toys and activities for kids
Suomenlinna Toy Museum in Helsinki is my favorite toy museum. However, children may love this Suomen Lelumuseo Hevosenkenkä (Finnish Toy Museum Horseshoe) in Espoo more, because there are more activities for children here. In Finnish Toy Museum Horseshoe children may play. There is a slide and an airplane cabin in which children may do what they want. There is also a model railway there and children may press a button to operate trains. For me this museum was very nostalgic, because I saw many toys which were familiar in my childhood. This toy museum is situated in the museum center WeeGee with three other museums. There is a marked route (700 meters) from the metro train (the subway) station of Tapiola to WeeGee. So this museum is easily accessible from Helsinki, too.
