Heidestein is one of the natural landscape of "Het Utrechtse Landschap". Another area just next to Heidestein is Bornia. There are 2 walking routes in this woody area, The Red mark (4,5 km) is for Heidestein and the Blue mark ( 5,5 km) is for Bornia. The mark is easy to follow. We visited the sheep-fold area and we didn't see any sheeps. We didn't see birds either but hearing the woodpicker was busy knocking the trees. There is a visitor centre and also "beestenbos", a small wood with animals that you can find in this wood. It is a nature studies path. As we have a very hot and dry summer this year, the small lake has gone and the heath was bruin. Well it is a beautiful place to take a walk
