A fantastic exhibition of Dutch railway history

Just so many varied exhibits, trains and memorabilia from different generations. Intersting to see a train there that was only on service earlier in the year, that shows commitment to preservation of all generations of vehicles. There is also an interesting sideshow about Hyperloop as well, looking to the future. There is plenty of space to explore everything, some interactive stuff for the youngsters, and everything also really well explained on the info plaques for each exhibit. Also a reasonably priced cafe in there where snacks and coffee are available when you want a break from walking around! Was an easily spent 3 or more hours and I thought very good value for the entry fee, and would definitely recommend it to anyone with an interest in transport and railways.

Highlight of our stay in Utrecht
Het Spoorwegmuseum was a highlight of our trip to Utrecht. Marketed mostly to kids, the museum actually has something for everyone. First off, it's in a gorgeous train station, and you can actually catch the train there. We walked from the center of town, about 20 minutes, to the museum. It was a beautiful stroll. As a kid who grew up with a train fanatic for a dad, I knew I'd have a blast. I wasn't certain my husband would. But he thoroughly enjoyed the visit. There was a great mix of exhibits and trains from various periods. Numerous train cars you could walk through including a royal train. The collector area was neat and included odd things made to look like a train. There was a small yet neat hyperloop exhibit. I loved the restored interiors in the station. The staff were super helpful. They gave us a guide in English and helped us buy a museum card, which we used to visit other museums. They had a fantastic book of all their trains but it was only in Dutch. I had such a great visit, I decided to get it anyway. We spent about 3 hours there. It's definitely worth a visit if you are in Utrecht. Even if you aren't that much into trains, you'll learn a ton.

Wonderful railway experience
Based in an old railway station this museum is well worth a visit if you have any interest in trains and railways. I spent two and a half hours there and enjoyed every minute. There a a lot of trains to see from all ages and also a few presentations of various aspects of the railway some of which are timed so it is worth checking the guide book to see which you want to see then go to them to check on times. I would highly recommend this museum
