Going back in time to understand the future: the PDA
If you visit Holland go to Amersfoort, to the "Polizeiliches Durchgangslager Amersfoort", the former concentration camp. I went there for the first time, many many years ago due to my fathers stay in the camp during WW2. And I have been returning ever since, a few times a year. It's impressive, located in the still of the forest you can feel the gruesome past come to you. Visit the museum, watch the movie, the photography and all the objects. Made and used by prisoners or later found in the ground near the camp.

Amersfoortcamp
We are lucky we learned about this relatively unknown concentration camp from a Dutchman while in Amsterdam. It is a short drive from Amersfoort and contains a small information center. Not much of the camp remains, but enough is there to portray the tragic story of the Dutch resistance movement members and even 101 Russian prisoners of war. We took the walk between two rises which leads to a statue to remember the lives of those lost in the camp: a significant memorial to the brutality of the Nazis and the tragic consequences for many of the brave resistance fighters.
