Volcano crater
If you're in El Salvadore go see the volcanic creator at Alegria....fascinating in a Jurassic Park kinda way. Don't eat at Cartegena in town though....the chicken is the worst ever and probably the dead fighting clocks they keep on the property. The Carne Asada was good....

One of the only things to do in Alegria
This crater lake was a bit average. The walk from town is fine. The price into the area is fair. The water is milky green. The surrounds are real pretty. There are some food stands set up here and there. They looked mostly closed, as well as some basic lodging. The lake was not exactly inviting you to swim. It just seemed a bit too stagnant and full of underwater tree limbs and other bits of debris. It is a harmless detour for an hour or so. Not ugly, not beautiful.
