Lake of the Clouds, Michigan, United States

A fall beauty not to be missed!

What a beautiful way to spend a fall afternoon! Even though we were not at the leaf peak yet there were some trees in the valley that had started to turn scarlet and yellow, it was stunning. The price per vehicle to get into the Lake of the Clouds lot is $9.00 and well worth it for all the natural beauty. The overlook is breathtaking and there are a lot of different views of the lake. The trail is a loop that is pretty short and handicapped accessible and an easy walk for all ages and abilities. Be sure to bring a camera, the view is something you will want memories of for sure.

Beautiful view, easy to get to
We were hoping for more fall colors in all the trees down below, but weren’t disappointed with what we found. There were lots of clouds and fog blocking our view, but it was still pretty and rewarding... And since it’s called “Lake of the Clouds,” it felt sort of fitting. There is a charge to get into the state park unless you have the pass for all Michigan state parks. The hike to get to the overlook is short, easy for most skill levels, and I think it’s even handicap accessible. The path is paved and I think there’s a ramp from the parking lot to the path. No bathrooms though, so make sure you take care of business before you get there.

    Surrounded by forests & mountains
Lake of the Clouds was the main reason we went to the Porkies- it was recommended by many of our friends. There is a paved trail (a bit steep) or a boardwalk to get to see the lake. It's surrounded by forests and mountains- very beautiful and peaceful.
