Secki and Vanessa's - Chatham Bay

Vanessa approached our boat just after we dropped anchor. We were enchanted by her smile and genuineness. We went in for happy hour and ended up with several Hairoun Beers and awesome fish fritters.....came back for a great lunch and several long round of beer. Look, this place is awesome. Seccki and Vanessa go out of their way to make you feel welcome and the food is great. Next trip, we'll likely return to this charming bay and Secki & Vanessa's....even if it means a day or two detour. Great snorkeling on the sides of the bay. BTW, skip overpriced Aqua.....three times the price and not nearly as good.

    Tranquility
Compared to the relative bustle of Clifton, this bay is seriously quiet. Reminds you of what these islands were like 30+ years ago. On January 1 we were one of ten boats at anchor. There is a small hotel and a few beach bars, but the title of this review describes it.

    World class snorkeling
Chatham Bay This bay is secluded and no roads from the rest of Union Island come down to the beach. It makes a great anchorage for sailing ships. I have traveled here on Island Windjammers ship Diamant several times. A small bar and restaurant is on the left side of the beach and sometimes has music in the evening. Lounge chairs with the fabric ripped out are next to the bar. Not sure their purpose except maybe to lure sailors onto the beach or bar. Aside from the beach the activity is limited to hiking up the hill for a view or pictures of the bay and snorkeling. The snorkeling here is world class if a storm has not stirred up the waters. Starting from the beach in front of the bar work your way along the rocky shoreline. You will see all manner of sea life. I have seen schools of fish so thick you could not see through them, lobster, lion fish, trumpet fish, puffers, angel fish and numerous other spices. Once I snorkeled over a large shark only five or six feet below me. Large sea turtles are common.
