Tuskegee Human &Civil Rights Multicultural Center, Alabama, United States
5.0 (13 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #4 in Tuskegee Speciality Museums
This is an excellent museum that documents the history of the local area and augments the Airman and GW Carver Museums
The Tuskegee Civil Rights Center focuses on the Tuskegee Experiment, early american and civil rights era. There is an excellently painted running mural that transitions history from dinosaurs to the reconstruction era. Debra Gray is the museum director and is a very knowledgeable resident of the local area as well. There is a lot of information on the medical experiments and shows the despair of the local resident who were put at risk. The south corner of the museum predominately focuses on civil rights era as it paralleled the south's efforts to end segregation. Definitely worth the efforts to travel out and see. The University is nearby so u can visit the GW Carver, Oaks and Tuskegee Airmen Museums as well.

The importance of Tuskegee
By visiting this museum, I learned that Tuskegee and it's surroundings ( Macon county) is rich with a multicultural history. This museum brings the events and people of this area in a very effective way. Events are presented chronologically and while not a large museum, time is needed to read the texts and listen to the movie clips. Anyone wanting to learn more about the Tuskegee Syphilis study should visit. The names of each person that was included in this unethical study is inscribed in the centre of the museum and the result is very moving. Original media footage presented. This museum has allot to offer

Informative
The museum is small but full of information. Our Sorority toured the museum and was very impressed with the staff as well as the displays. I would have liked to have seen more information about the childhood home of Booker T. Washington. Good place for a family to visit.
