David In The Buff Since 1501
I have been to the Plaza della Sigoria a few times over the years and each time you find the usual massive crowds but this time I went twice in early morning and David was there in the cool morning looking like anyone with his nickers off on a cool day. Michaleangelo at 26 years of age spent two years chipping and sanding away at a marble block to create a replica of the David that fixed Goliath and showed him before the battle without his clothes on.Not sure who the model was but he would have been bored (and looks it) after two years.Too bad the real one is out of the weather and this is a replica but it still draws the crowds, There are a few other statues in this busy square but how could you go to Firenze without a visit.

    Interesting visit
We went later in the afternoon on a Wednesday, which I would recommend to avoid any crowds. It was a decent price at around 16 euros each, and probably took us 45 minutes to walk around. Without any tour guide it's difficult to know precisely the relevance of what you're looking at, but all the tours were booked unfortunately so we just took in the beauty of the place and that was nice enough. Lots of stairs, but did seem to have some disabled access which is good. There is also a balcony which overlooks the river and up to the hills where the piazza michaelangelo is - this was an unexpected part of the visit and was a stunning view. Well worth the entry fee alone.
