Exquisite art collection in a superb palace
I'd recommend visiting the Palazzo Pitti to anyone who's interested in art & beauty in a not so crowded place. There's a beautiful collection of paintings and sculptures displayed in stunning rooms, it was not crowded at all (we visited the museum on a Tuesday afternoon in April) and you get to visit the Giardino Di Boboli afterwards, if you want (entrance purchased separately). I really enjoyed the visit and plan on returning next time I'm in Florence!

Impressive Renaissance and Baroque art, stunning decor, a true show of wealth!
Our visit to the Palazzo Pitti was on sunny Sunday morning in late September. It was pretty impressive just walking up to the front of the palace with its three-storey stone facade of arched windows and lions. The entrance opens into a courtyard. And from there we headed up the staircase into the museums. We started with a ballroom, and then wended our way from room to room, admiring the art. Paintings, sculpture, furniture and more. We saw so many familiar works by the most well-known artists of the Renaissance: Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, Rubens, van Dyck, and more! Even found a couple works by Artemisia Gentileschi. The ceilings in the rooms are so stunning. The Porcelain collection was extensive, with Sevres and Meissen as well as Japanese pieces. Bejeweled gold and silver. The amount of Medici wealth is astounding!! We spent a couple hours in the museums before going out into the Boboli Gardens. It had rained heavily the night before so the paths were a bit unsteady. No signage directing us to the best parts of the Gardens so we didn't stay long.
