White Water Rafting on the Pastaza
Took a half day white water rafting trip on the Pastaza and had an amazing time! Guide said the rapids were Class III-IV, but I felt they were more of a solid II+ to III. Beautiful location. Fed us lunch at a local restaurant and it was very good. Highly recommend.

Wild river flowing through a spectacular canyon
The Pastaza flows right through Banos in an eastern direction. After the hamlet of Ulba there is dam to enable generating electric power. Thereafter the Pastaza gets wild again flowing through a gorge with spectacular waterfalls. Best views on the river and the canyon are from the South bank for instance when you take Sendero Los Sauces or Sendero de los Contrabanistas. Strange to know that the water you see ends up in the Amazon river and eventually the Atlantic ocean. Take care when booking a raft ¨adventure¨. The Pastaza also serves as a sewer.
