    Great family fun
What a great place to take your family for a fun hike. My only complaint is the numerous dogs not on leashes. It's posted as a rule, but some dog owners don't comply with the rule. Other than that, we love hiking here.

    Wilderness in the City
Excellent and incredibly convenient place to take a break from the city, without ever leaving it. Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area covers 600+ acres on a large hill ('mountain" in OK!) rising 300 feet above the west bank of the Arkansas River. For the most part it is densely forested with Post and Blackjack Oaks, Hickory trees, and smaller understory species. It's particularly nice in Spring when the Redbud trees are blooming. There are also two small ponds. Miles of trails cross the area; for the most part they are fairly well marked, but it is easy to lose your bearing and get a bit lost. Most of the trails are fairly easy to traverse, though some, particularly along the north and east sides of the mountain can be pretty rocky/rooty and some are fairly steep. Area is well-used by hikers and mountain bikers, and occasionally someone on horseback. Nice views from atop the mountain. Area is quite active with families, hikers, cyclists, and generally safe. Only potential natural danger would be a few poisonous snakes in warm weather, ticks and mosquitoes, or twisting an ankle or falling on an uneven trail. Main parking area is at 67th & Elwood. There is a nicely paved lot there along with nice restrooms, water fountains (including dog bowl fountain), trail maps, and a large picnic pavilion. There is also a large unpaved lot further north up the hill at 61st & Elwood. The Wilderness Area is part of the Tulsa River Parks system and is connected to the rest of the park by wide, nicely paved bicycle and running trails.
