Golden Dorado fishing in the Uruguay River

We went to Salto to fish for Golden Dorado in La Zona but unfortunately the government had not issued their permit at the time we were there. We hooked up with a great guide who salvaged the trip, Gianni Juncal, owner of Best Dorado Fishing. He took us out two days and worked hard to get us into fish. He speaks English pretty good, definitely enough to take care of all my questions. He was a pleasant surprise as my Spanish is muey poquito. I will definitely go back, hopefully when he has the permit, but I still would go back and fish with him again without the permit. Worth the effort to get there. Pricing was very fair.

Great electric Dam - Very impressive
I had the opportunity to visit while crossing the border from Argentina to Uruguay (via Concordia-Salto) the Salto HydroElectric plant just at the skirts of Salto (roughly 5 km from centre of town.) With 14 Kaplan turbines and a bit more than 1,5 km long earth dam, you will have a unique opportunity to understand how hydroelectric energy is generated. The dam is located in very beautiful green, nicely preserved area. To cycle around is a unique opportunity plus to organise a picnic. I recommended highly if you happen to be in Salto. By the way, call beforehand to have details on opening hours.

    Frustrating
We tried to visit the Represa de Salto Grande. With information from Lonely Planet re tour times, when we arrived there was no information anywhere regarding their tours. We checked in at the information desk and were told, only in Spanish to wait outside for the next tour. The staff were all in line to catch buses to leave work. In checking information again, a more helpful attendant said we should have registered and she tried to do this. After waiting for over an hour we then were told that the bus driver was still delayed. Everyone had left. So we never did the tour. They are not ready for English tourism.
