Short visit
In 1878, the Jewish community builds, on the bank of Crișul Repede river, a monumental synagogue with 1000 places, dominated by a huge central dome. The project was designed by Busch David in a neo-Moorish style and executed by Rimanoczy Kalman (the father). The interior fresco belongs to the Kosice painter Horovitz Mor. The interior and exterior decorations are of Moorish inspiration.

A gem hidden in plain sight
Impressive architecture, outside and especially inside. It’s the first such place we ever visited, so we were not sure what to expect. Beyond things you can see inside, it’s also the things you are reminded of, and these are at Payment by card or by cash, small fee, 10 RON per adult, a nice souvenir shop. A friendly lady at the reception. Bonus: a vivid exhibition of paintings, probably from local artists / kids.

Completely restored, the synagogue has become a space for contemporary arts.
The synagogue is a simplified replica, in the spirit of modernity, of the Nuremberg Synagogue and the construction of the imposing building with 1000 seats was entrusted to Rimanóczi Kálmán senior, a well-known name of Oradea architecture, master of eclectic style. You have the best image, overall on the Synagogue, from the bridge leading to the City Hall. The architectural details can be seen only in its vicinity, but the visibility is much reduced by the terraces surrounding the synagogue. A visit of 15-20 minutes is enough.
