A holy place for Romanians
Hidden in the hills of Hateg county, Prislop monastery is one of the dearest places to Romanians. It is usually crowded as people come for pilgrimage to prey at the grave of Arsenie Boca who was a huge personality of the Romanian Orthodox Church. He was also an artist who painted parts of the walls of the church of Prislop monastery and other two churches in Romania (Eroilor church in Bucharest and the church in Draganescu village in Giurgiu county, nearby Bucharest). Arsenie Boca designed the plans to rebuild the garden of Prislop and coordinated the related works. He also designed and built the spire in the garden which is amazingly integrated in the natural landscape of the garden.

Nice monastery
A Muntenian style church built in Transylvania. Due to the fame of Arsenie Boca, it turned into a destination for pilgrims. The monastery and the area are superb. Kind of crowded, but you can sit back and recharge your energy.

Unfortunately has turned into a commercial area
Was looking for a peaceful and quiet place. Instead, we found it crowded and noisy, lots of people not coping with the Covid-19 regulations. Nowhere to buy water from, only 3 small shops with souvenirs, also very crowded, people going inside without waiting for others to come out. A bit disappointed, not what we were expecting from a sacred place. The area, the view and the church are worth the trip. Maybe you are lucky and visit it when it’s not crowded, during the week would be advisable.
