Great views of Cluj Napoca and the surrounding area

*Visited July 2021* It was a long walk uphill through Cetățuia Park up to Cetățuia Hill on a Sunday afternoon with temperatures in the High 30s . Once at the peak of the hill there was a panoramic view of Cluj and the surrounding area where there are some good views of the stunning churches and historic buildings. It was definitely worth the sweaty walk up to Cetățuia Hill for the great views of the city.

    More that just a hill
    This place is one of the best places in Cluj to see the city from above, but further more, here was one of the city forteres in Vauban style. I have been here so many time but just later on i have found out the things about the history of this place. There are 3 gates and another 2 buildings from the original structure. I recomend you to visit this only with a local guide. He can help you to fully understand this great place. Or is you just whanna see the city from above you can go till there and take some great pictures.

    Sunset walk
    Not a big fan of the panoramic view from top of the hill, as the city of Cluj is still contaminated by a lot of ugly buildings from communist era. Unpalatable ugly are also the buildings dating back from the '90s and some of them are also visible from Cetatuia. The only things that worth climbing all those stairs are the food vans located on the peak, from where you can get a cold beer and watch the sunset. During TIFF there's an open air cinema organized on top of Cetatuia Hill and that's the best venue where one can watch a movie around Cluj. Been there during TIFF 2021 to watch Riders of Justice with Mads Mikkelsen and it was a lovely experience. Descending the stairs after movie with a pint of Warsteiner in hand, while watching the city lights was really cool.
