Panhandle space pioneer
Well worth a hop off I-40. Amazing collection on astronaut Alan Bean, fourth man on the moon, and his painted artwork. Also a nice presentation and artifacts of the local Red River War. Located in the American Legion building. Free, but there is a donation box. Some displays are in progress (3/2019), so it's just getting better. Staff was friendly and helpful (and the only person around when I visited on a Saturday). Just head north from the U-Drop-In in Shamrock and continue through Wheeler until you see the big astronaut statue.

Friendliest people
The museum was pretty cool with a lot of space paraphernalia and a section on the history of the town. The gentleman working there was the nicest individual and really made you feel welcome to the museum and the town.
