It's a lot longer than you think it is

We have been walking the Waxahachie Creek Hike & Bike Trail for about 10 years. It is a very well maintained trail and just a wonderful place to walk and not feel like you are in the middle of town. Don't make the mistake I did the first time and think it is a loop. When you get to the end, if you don't have a ride, you have to walk back.

    Bring you bike to Waxahachie!
I love this trail! Start at Getzendaner Memorial Park where there is plenty of shade for parking. The trail is on the back perimeter of the park and proceeds towards downtown where you may want to stop to look at one of the oldest bridges in Texas. From there the trail stays near the creek for six miles and ends at the Lion's park. There you need to turn around and go back They have benches along the trail to sit and enjoy the creek and the enormous trees. I read that many people were baptized in that creek in the early days of Waxahachie. There is old farm equipment scattered about to add interest, and the trail is paved and smooth the whole way. I would also recommend just riding your bike all over town, too. The streets are flat, and there are many beautiful old, stately homes to admire. Since moving to Dallas, I haven't seen many nice, well-kept small towns that look like the ones in the Midwest. Except for Waxahachie! This is a sweet place and this trail makes for a very enjoyable, free getaway from Dallas.

Nice concrete trail along a creek
The trail is well maintained and runs along Waxahachie Creek for about 3.5 miles each way. After a rain there can be some mud washed over it so cyclists should beware of this...the dried dirt can be slippery also, and the two wooden bridges are extremely slippery when wet. When crowded it is very frustrating to ride as many people don't understand a cyclist calling out "on your left" and often will move to the left! There are some curves that some riders take too fast, so while the trail is nice and clean, everyone using it must remain vigilant.
