UTEP Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens, Texas, United States

A nice way to spend the morning

We were in El Paso to see family during the 110+ degree heatwave. So logically we decided to check out the desert gardens at UTEP. This campus is beautiful. The gardens are so well maintained, with a meditation fountain to find shade and relax. We would have stayed longer under slightly cooler conditions, but I’m still glad we went. My son spotted a tarantula hawk wasp, which made his day.

An Absolutely Beautiful Variety of Native Desert Plants on The University Campus
We had several hours to spare before checking into our hotel, so we decided to drive by the UTEP area. The landscaping all around the campus was absolutely breathtaking. The more buildings, unique architecture and lush landscaping that we drove by, the more we fell in love with the place. We ended up parking and spent most of the early afternoon walking all around outside and throughout the fantastic desert gardens. I wanted to visit the accompanying museum, but, unfortunately it is closed on Sundays. During our leisurely stroll, we also noticed a Bhutanese prayer wheel and a beautiful meditation area along the way. This was truly a wonderful place to visit and we appreciate the fact that we had the opportunity to spend some much-needed time enjoying the awe-inspiring views from several different vantage points.

    Fascinating Desert Gardens
During our walking tour of the UTEP campus (4 Apr 2015), my wife and I took time to enter this beautiful museum. The museum is at the corner of University Avenue and Wiggins Road, not far from the Sun Bowl. The entrance is gorgeous. Since our time was limited, we spent most of our time outside in the fantastic desert gardens. The plants are creatively arranged. One can pick up a printed guide for these gardens from the docent in the museum. A Bhutanese prayer wheel and a beautiful meditation area are highlights of these gardens. This is a wonderful place to visit.
