Interesting History
One of Texas’ most visited historic sites, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza chronicles the life, death and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. The Museum is in the former Texas School Book Depository building, where evidence of a sniper was found after the assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Much of the exhibit space looks as it appeared in the 1960s. Highlights include a sniper’s perch, the FBI model used by the Warren Commission, an original teletype machine that first transmitted news of the president’s death, Oswald’s wedding ring, historic films, photos and more. An interactive display overlooks Dealey Plaza. Admission includes an audio guide, available in eight languages including ASL. The museum is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas. RECOMMENDED: Buy timed-entry tickets in advance at jfk.org. The most convenient paid parking is adjacent to the building; stay in the far right lane of Elm Street to enter the parking lot.

Very interesting
This museum tells a story that’s important in American history, and does so in such an authentic way. Learning about the details of Kennedy’s death in the place where it happened is powerful. We found the exhibits to be informative and as unbiased as possible, which is impressive in telling a story with several angles, theories and remaining questions. The museum currently requires timed reservations and we found it helpful to reserve a few days in advance; we heard it was sold out the day we visited. Our visit took about two hours.

go to the 6th floor
We spent 2.5 hours here on a Thursday from 10:30 to 1:00. We were surprised that we had to pay $10 for parking given there is already an admission price for the museum. We had purchased our tickets in advance of the trip so we simply showed them to the employee on my phone and skipped the line. It was actually very crowded when we arrived to the point of being somewhat uncomfortable and having to stand around with 10-12 others while reading or looking at something, but after about an hour the crowd thinned and it was much more comfortable and manageable. Our overall impression of this museum is that it was very informative and well organized. We then spent 20 minutes wandering outside.
