The Showboat Drive-In, Texas, United States

4.5 (82 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Hockley Movie Theaters

First ever Drive-in experience

This is the first time I had ever been to a Drive-in cinema and I found it fantastic. We got there early to avoid queues but there were not many people there, probably due to the weather. Our GPS sent us to the wrong entrance as well so look out for that. Reading previous reviews I can see where there could be an issue getting in if it was busy as there are no traffic lights just a single lane which could hold up traffic up with people turning in. Thought the cost was extremely good value.

    Lots of fun!
This is a great place for a fun, family evening. We took lawn chairs, blankets, and a cooler full of food. Great price for a double feature and an evening with the family. One price per car. Highly recommend it.

    Felt like kids again!
My husband and I visited The Showboat this past Saturday night. I remembered going to the drive-in with my family as a child, and I was so excited to find one close enough; there are very few left in the country. We were both pleasantly surprised at the experience as a whole. The screens are in perfect shape, if a bit smaller than what I seem to remember as a kid. If you've never been to a drive-in, try to remember this is not blu-ray on an HDTV, it's projection. We saw Puss in Boots, which at times was a bit dark, but I remember drive-ins always having that.We also saw Footloose, and the quality was great, nice and bright. The price of admission is $5 per adult. That's almost a quarter of the cost of a theater ticket here! To top it off, that price is for a double feature! They have two screens, each shows two movies. You don't have to fool with the old speakers on the poles like years ago (although I kind of missed that.) Depending on the screen you're watching, you tune your radio to 88.1FM for screen one, and 98.1FM for screen two. Sound quality matches whatever sound system you have in your vehicle. The parking lot is gravel, and each row has an elevated "ramp" so you can park your front tires there and be at a small upwards angle. You are allowed to park backwards for pickup trucks and hatchbacks. They require your hatchback only be as tall as the top of your vehicle, and if it's too tall, the staff will come out and tie a rope to lower it a bit for you. You can bring chairs and sit outside your vehicle, but they ask the chairs be in front. If you're sitting outside, or in the bed of a pickup, bring a small radio or boombox, they are fine with that. You can even bring your dog! (Inside your vehicle, and it can't be a nuisance.) When you buy your ticket, you get a list of rules and a concession menu. You'd never believe concession prices. I expected them to be high, because that's where they make their money with such cheap ticket prices. To give you an idea, we bought: A large tub of popcorn, 3 types of candy, a large soda, and a bottle of water for $13 dollars. They actually even have dinners, baskets, coffee, etc. The staff is amazing. Everyone was extremely polite and cheerful. The gates open at 6:00pm, and you need to be there then or before. We got there right at 6, and didn't have to wait too long, but afterwards the line was far down the road. Movies start at dark. They are open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at this time; I overheard someone saying they are open more in summer. They post their movies on their website, and they change them every Tuesday. This is an awesome place to kind of go back in time, or to give your kids a new experience. Go visit!
