Beautiful stop on Tour de Norway bike ride

Thank you Tour of Norway bike ride for bringing me here. The route went right past this church. I could not resist, I had to pull over and take a look. So beautiful. The historical marker plaque is helpful to give context on how this church was built and why.

Well preserved 18th Century Norwegian Church!
Beautiful historic church located on the scenic drive CR 4145 between Cranfills Gap and Clifton, Texas. The Old Rock Church was built in 1886, yet it is well preserved. The exterior and steeple showcase Norwegian architecture. Yet, one has to step into the sanctuary to truly appreciate the church. It is simply beautiful. Note how the pews slant, so comfortable. Just a touch of stained glass to add color. Alter is a work of art. Well worth an hour or so of your time as you drive this area. Be sure to see Our Saviors Lutheran Church at the end of CR 4145 too.

    Great old church
We proceeded here after visiting the other Norse church Our Savior's Lutheran Church. This is also on the backroads outside of Cranfills Gap. The church was built in 1886 and has many interesting features outside. Volunteers from the community hauled stones from nearby mountains for the exterior. The church has no running water nor electricity. There is a cemetery here also named Saint Olaf Cemetery. We were not able to visit either of these unfortunately because it was pouring down rain. Since we were here during April the wildflowers surrounded the church and made for some pretty pictures after swishing the windshield wipers!
