    Architectural Showcase of Boerne
The Dienger Trading Company is a beautiful historic building, maybe the most beautiful building in Boerne, and worth seeing outside and inside. The building has been re-purposed as a mini-mall of boutique shops and a cafe. The shops are terribly expensive and obviously cater to tourists and even the cafe is pricey. We didn't eat there, so I cannot comment on the food, but the building is unique. Nearby the Dienger building on Main Street (Hauptstrasse) is a very nice, and not to be missed, but completely out-of-place, life-size bronze statue by Erik Christianson of Wild Bill Hickok who was never in Boerne. Nevertheless, it's a wonderful staute of an iconic Western hero.

National Registry of Historic Places - Haunted!
Built in 1884, the Dienger Building is an icon for the surrounding community as it serves as the "front porch" of the Texas Hill Country, reminding us of our distinct history, our current vitality, and our future growth capacity. The Dienger Building is no longer home to the Boerne Public Library, a new library building was constructed in 2011. The Dienger (ding-er) is now empty and may be sold by the City of Boerne. A group named "The Dienger ~ A Cultural & Heritage Center" was created to conserve and preserve the historic Joseph Dienger Building as a home for the arts, architecture and heritage artifacts of Boerne and surrounding Hill Country community. Please support this group if you want the building to remain public.
