The Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Texas, United States

Wonderful Pit Stop Along the Interstate

Stopped here on our drive through Texas. A wonderful display of statues that tell the story of Jesus' experiences through carrying the cross, death on the cross, and even the tomb. Other statues as well. Tons of area to park. I believe there is a gift shop on site, but everything was closed the day we were there. The grounds are open and free to walk around.

    Powerful
We had not planned on stopping, but as we were going down Hwy 40 we kept seeing the Cross, googled it and decided to stop. It is AMAZING to see. The 14 stations of the life of Jesus were very powerful and emotional to see. The Passover meal, as well as the 3 Crosses were very powerful. I think everyone needs to see this. We were there near sunset, and the Shadow of the cross was even more moving and powerful.

Interesting Place to Break Up Your Long Drive on Highway 40
We had driven past this "rest stop" a number of times but decided to detour off of Highway 40 so we could stretch our legs and walk our dog. The grounds are easily accessible just off the highway exit and outside the town of Groom. There is plenty of off street parking including enough space for larger RVs or if you are pulling a trailer. Some reviews have questioned the quality of the roads when wet, but we did not have any issues. When we were there, it did not seem like it was patrolled, so you could park for as long as you might need to. A couple of the sites were still restricted due to Covid or other issues. We did not use the main facility. The statues are very accessible and easily photographable. You can even take a step into the cave tomb. It was a nice place to stretch one's legs and walk the dog to break up a long ride along Interstate 40.
