Up-Close animal encounter close to DFW

A fun experience, well-worth the modest entry fees! They have a nice collection of animals in humane habitats and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of fun things to pet and feed as well: camels, goats, sheep, alpaca, mini horses, and cows. They fill the day with animal encounters and talks that are informative and intimate. I was a little apprehensive about the two bears and two lionesses, but they are rescues, in decent habitats, and well cared-for.

    Loved It!
My husband, myself, and our 6 year old son visited Sharkarosa on a Sunday. We arrived around 9:30am. Tickets are not very expensive which is great. We also bought some feed for the animals so we could hand feed them all. I noticed that in one of the reviews someone said they charge for parking. This is false. Parking is free. I never noticed anyone having to pay for parking. There are a lot of animals to see, and we enjoyed it so much. Staff was really friendly, and I enjoyed the talks we got to go to about the bears and the tiger. The man giving the talks definitely knew what he was talking about and was willing to stay behind to make sure each and every question was answered. My son loved the little playground area as well. The merry go round was his favorite. There is a little tuck shop which sells just he basic snacks - no hot food. They do have drinks though too. We didn't visit the actual gift shop which looked nice. We loved everything about Sharkarosa and will be recommending it to everyone!

    Lemurs
This would make a nice family outing, but I came as a solo adult and still had fun. The staff were very nice, and I enjoyed feeding and petting the animals. I did a personal encounter with the lemurs and they were hilarious. Be advised, though, that their social skills are nil! They’re kinda rough! They will jump all over you and you will be dirty. One even nicked my finger slightly, going for the grape I was holding. I ended up with some great pictures, though, and I will never again wonder what it’s like to hold a lemur! :)
