Sebastopol House State Historic Site, Texas, United States

Great historic house tour

The tour took an hour and it was well worth it if you enjoy historical houses. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and the early use of concrete along with using the roof to store water was fascinating. Not recommended for those with small children who will be easily bored by the tour. It also has steps is some areas which may be problematic if mobility is an issue. But if you like history and architecture, this is a hidden gem! I often go on historical house tours and have never seen anything like this. Enjoy!

Sebastopol house the original "Lime crete" house
The Sebastopol house is a 1856 Greek revival mansion that was built by slaves before the civil war. When we arrived the attendant at the house was ready to close up but he let us in and gave us a personnel tour of the house. The woodwork in the house is still mostly original and shows you how things were constructed back then. This house was one of the first houses to be built out of limecrete. If you like to see how things were built pre civil war this is a great example and Seguin is a great little town to explore.

    Great Tour
My husband and I made a last minute decision to stop by for a quick tour, and we couldn’t be happier we did. When we walked in we were quickly greeted by Charles M. He was so kind, didn’t make us wait for the next scheduled tour. Even though it was just us, he gave us the full tour and then some. He was very knowledgeable, kind, dynamic speaker, and clearly excited about the house. We learned so much!!! He answered all our questions thoroughly, gave us lots of opportunities to take closer looks. We can’t strongly enough recommend a visit here, especially to meet Charles! He is such a kind man who really brings enthusiasm to history. He is one of the best tour guides we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Stop by for a tour, you won’t regret it!
