excellent

Must see spot in Bonham. Fascinating to learn about this historic Texan who seemed to put country over politics. Young female staffer was very knowledgeable and friendly.

    very small museum but interesting
My husband and I went to the Sam Rayburn Museum on Monday morning. There was only one person in the building. The staff worker told us to enjoy the museum and we were welcome to ask questions. My husband and I walked around and read all of the signs. It is a very small museum but interesting. It took us 15 to looking around inside. The museum is free.

Great historical interest, better than the home
The Sam Rayburn Museum is a fine and thorough history of the longest-serving Speaker of the US House of Representatives. It contains interesting artifacts like the Speakers rostrum from the US capitol and the original chandelier from the East Room of the White House. It gives political insight in depth. It has many cartoons of the day and letters from important people in the era 1912 to 1961. Allow an hour. Admission free. Bathrooms downstairs. No food, but Cappy's Cafe a few blocks away has a nice buffet lunch. The museum is separate from the Sam Rayburn House, just over a mile away. The house displays furniture, fixtures, and family life. The museum does political life. If you start with the museum, the house visit will go quicker.
