Ceased by Eminent Domain - Fishing is no more, but the birding is better

Rollover pass is gone. It is no more. Galveston County ceased the pass via eminent domain and filled in the pass due to beach erosion and silting. The county website said there may be future plans for a park and fishing pier. Fishing was the main attraction here, but now that it's been eliminated birding is actually better. There are two tiny trickles of water on the left and right side of where the edge of the pass used to be. Gulls, terns, skimmers, plovers, sandpipers and more like to sit on that protected land spot. If you are a bird photographer, it's a great place to get close up shots.

Enjoyed fishing here and caught a lot of fish.
We came to take our kids fishing that are 8 and 5. We pretty much didn’t care what kind of fish we caught we just wanted the experience for our kids. We were able to back our truck right up to the railing and sit on our tail gate to fish. Recommend bringing umbrellas for shade. We stopped at a bait store which told us squid were good for fishing here. We caught so many Catfish and big ones! The kids were so excited to catch fish and didn’t want to leave. We ended up catching so many we threw them back if they were smaller than the huge ones we caught.
