Book haven

Took a day trip to Denton, just an hour away from our location. While my husband found his favorite section to browse, I decided to go take a look around the place and explore. Found all kinds of graffiti, quirkiness and general awesomeness that kept me entertained like a little child. Their music selection is outstanding, they also have a top floor and a basement which I didn't venture to, next time I go, I'm heading downstairs.

    Unique Bookstore Experience
We had heard about Recycled Books through the owner of another bookstore and had wanted to visit for some time. We finally made it on a Friday afternoon. The store is located downtown and is very close to the old Denton County courthouse. Parking is somewhat limited. We parked in a large lot a few blocks away. Walking up, we joined numerous other customers walking from various directions. The place was doing a booming business this day! We were excited about the location being in an old opera house but had not realized it used only part of the space. Even so, the footprint of the store meandered up, down, and around in curious ways that most book lovers would find intriguing. The selection of books and music was eclectic and interesting overall. We did find some items to purchase. People watching added to the experience as well. What we did find off putting was the various patterns of ancient shag carpeting patched with duct tape and generally down at the heels look of the “decor”. The bathroom, of which there seemed to be only one available for customers, was an experience we would have preferred to miss! Overall this was an interesting experience we would recommend if you are in the area. For us it was a little disappointing but judging from other customers it was clearly much loved by many.

    So Many Books!
First off, Recycled Books is big into wearing masks. My husband's mask slipped down past his nose without him realizing, and a staff member asked him to wear his mask properly. There is a person at the door that makes sure you are wearing a mask before you come in. They hand out masks if you don't have your own. I was very happy to finally see a place taking mask wearing seriously for once. The person at the front takes your shopping bag and puts it behind the counter as you can't have bags (unless it's small bag or purse) while browsing. They give you a small clothespin so you can get your bag(s) later. There are so many books to browse from! They even have music (cds, tapes, vinyl, etc), video games, board games, action figures, etc. It's a lot of fun! However, a lot of the books are priced fairly high...at least I think they are. Yet I always end up buying things from this book shop. This time I bought some comic books, an art book, and a hoodie. We didn't stay very long because my 6 year old was bored and really had to pee. (Bathrooms are now closed to the public because of COVID.) When we checked out, the young girl working behind the counter wasn't very friendly. Perhaps she was just having a bad day.
