Panhandle Plains Historic Museum

We’re a museum dedicated to one thing: the history of the Panhandle-Plains region. But that singular focus expresses itself in a multitude of ways. Inside PPHM, themed exhibitions include those that showcase paleontology, archaeology, textiles, classic cars, petroleum, the Old West and a renowned art collection. PPHM offers visitors a chance to step into history with a life-size Pioneer Town, interactive Don D. Harrington Petroleum Wing, guided group tours and special events. With over two million artifacts, of which only a small percentage are on display, visitors marvel at the vast array of objects we showcase.

Panhandle museum with a great variety
We visited here today after visiting Palo Duro Canyon. I recommend downloading the Amarillo Panhandle Pass from the internet, it will save you $2/adult admission. Lots of stuff to see: fossils, pioneer life, petroleum exploration, antique automobiles, rocks, and Native American stuff, just to name a few. I highly recommend a visit!

    Wow
All I can say is wow. We expected this museum to be at most an hour long stop. It is quite large, and we literally wore ourselves out trying to cover most of it. The exhibits are first class. If you travel to the area to see or stay in Palo Duro, I highly recommend that you take half of a day to visit this museum.
