My old stomp'n grounds during the 80's oil boom sure has changed.

What a very nice place to stay at.Even the Palmetto drive back to the camp sites give a feeling of a tropical forest.Super friendly staff and park workers.Book ahead of time! This place STAYS full most of the year.NEVER visit this area w/o eating at the City Market in Luling and Chisolm Trails BBQ in Lockhart. Most reasonable BBQ prices you will ever find and THEEEEEEE very best BBQ,probably,in the world.

Nice trails
My husband and I stayed 3 nights mid-week (in August) in Palmetto State Park. We stayed at RV campground in travel trailer. It was about 40% full. The campsites are spaced out nicely, shady and clean but there is no privacy between the sites. We hiked all of the beautiful wide trails, and some multiple times. The San Marcos River was shallow but some people were soaking in the water. We saw deer, squirrels and a few birds. The artesian well, Palmettos and many foot bridges were interesting. Oxbow Lake is a fun place to canoe or kayak. We spent one day in Gonzales doing the drive tour of the many historic homes, seeing the 1887 Jailhouse, 1896 Gonzales County Courthouse, Gonzales Memorial Museum, enjoying Independence Park at the Guadalupe River and seeing the Sam Houston Tree (10 miles east). We have been to Palmetto State Park in the past and plan to return.
