Fascinating Study Of An Important Industry! Very Educational.
I really enjoyed my visit to the Ocean Star Museum. The curators and staff do an excellent job informing visitors about the complexities of exploring/drilling for oil and gas. I had no real idea about the science, engineering and technology that goes into producing the energy needs of a modern (and developed) nation such as the United States. I certainly came away from my visit with a much greater appreciation of VERY hard work the men & women in the energy industry do to make our lives easier and more comfortable. Truly fascinating! The museum is expertly laid out and easy to navigate. The displays are comprehensive and very well done. I was particularly impressed with the information provided about how the industry focuses, as a critical priority, on safety and environmental protection. I think it is very important for people to know and understand just how seriously the energy industry takes these two priorities. The museum consists of three display floors, and outdoor displays. During these COVID-19 times, the museum adheres to health & safety protocols. You must wear a mask and practice proper social distancing. Not a problem! It didn't slow us down at all. In fact, it even made the visit more enjoyable as we could take our time and learn from the displays without feeling rushed or crowded. Just one word of caution. If you visit on a rainy day, be very careful while exploring the outside areas. The walkways are very slippery when wet. In sum, the Ocean Star Museum is well worth an investment of a couple hours. Very informative and interesting. I would visit again! Museum admission is about $10,00, and these is a small gift store at the reception area. However, there is no food/drink concessions at the museum.

    Interesting
I've seen this place every time I go to Galveston for the past few years and I've always wondered what it was. Decided to check it out and was pleasantly surprised. It is a retired oil rig that has been transformed into a museum with lots of hands on interactive exhibits. There are 3 floors and a few exhibits outside as well. Price of admission was $10 and we thought it was well worth the price for the size of the museum. They have a nice gift shop as well so be sure to stop by on your way out to grab a souvenir or two. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Galveston....especially if you're wanting to get away from the crowded beaches.
