Beautiful castle

This was my first visit to a castle and I must say it was a neat experience. It's a great place for photos and touring the inside was fun except for how crowded it was. You can climb to the tops of the towers if you want but there were so many people that we felt a bit claustrophobic. You do get a lunch with your tour. It's a sandwich, cookies, and donuts. The donuts are delicious!! To get to the castle they have you meet at the Bakery in town to pay and get a wrist band then you have to drive out to the castle. The only downside is the owner of the castle seems a bit rude and talks in a very monotone voice. He didn't really mingle and have conversations with people so I'm guessing maybe he's just not a people person. Overall we had a good time but maybe shorten the intro a bit cause spending 45 minutes in the hot sun was ridiculous. Price of admission is $20

Long winded owner, but castle was neat.
We visited Newman's Castle w/large family group, 12 people. 3 were kids. We enjoyed seeing inside the castle when we finally got to go inside! The owner, Mike, did an amazing job of the castle, but was very long winded about telling us how it was built, why, etc before letting us go in. We were sitting under a covered area, but it was very hot still & there were over 100 there, so not all were under it. That was way too many people! He was not very excited to tell us about it, like a person dressed in a Renaissance costume, normally is. When we finally got inside, of course we had questions, but he was no where around. And you had to be careful not to run into each other, because there were too many people! Parts of it were actually dangerous, too, like climbing the ladder to the bell tower. If someone were to ring one of those bells it could knock someone off the ladder! And we didn't sign a waiver! Lunch was ok. Bathrooms aren't labeled, so everyone had to ask where they were. And not good signage telling you where to turn to get to the castle from the road. The whole thing was overpriced for what we got. Won't go again.

    Beautiful home!
It is this castle and this castle alone that will draw people to Bellville, TX. The castle is a "secret," and tours are by reservation only through Newman's Bakery in historic downtown Bellville. From there you will get directions. The castle was really the owner's home on 20 acres. He grew up in the area and established a bakery. In 1998, he and a helper started building the castle themselves over eight years. The land was purchased with a pond, and the idea for the castle came to fruition. The tour started in a seating area across the entrance of the castle. The King came out to knight the kids, talk about the castle, do a catapult demonstration, and enact a castle takeover with an adult volunteer. As the castle was taken over, the drawbridge was lifted and lowered. The guests were then free to walk around the property and the grounds. There was a 60-foot belltower with working bells, a dining hall, dungeon, chapel, kitchen, study, and living quarters. Everything was decorated to fit the theme. My kids had a blast and imaginations ran wild! Overall: Great day trip. It was so wonderful that Mr. Newman opened his home to the public, and he himself is very involved with the tours. I cannot imagine opening my home six days a week. Sack lunches were included in the tour, along with tasty treats from the bakery. Very nice experience.
