Run by rude teenagers.

The Neals own several business in Concan. I would avoid the condos and I would rent take my tubing business somewhere else. This whole place was being run by rude teenagers. When one of our group had problem with their tube, the girl at the desk shrugged her shoulders and said "What do you want me to do about it?" Go somewhere else!

Don't Stay When it is Hot or Raining Hard
We just got back from our stay at the Buchanan Cabin at Neal's Lodges. I had stayed there with my family when I was a little girl so nostalgia brought me back. OK, 1st let me share the good parts. This cabin, the Buchanan, is big. It looks like 3 cabins were put together to make one large one. Nothing is fancy- old hardwood floors in need of refinishing, vinyl tile, old aluminum windows and some double hung wood windows painted shut but it was clean. There were 11 of us so we were looking for a place adequate in size. The Buchanan has 3 bedrooms, 3 small kitchens each with a refrigerator, 3 bathrooms, a fireplace, 3 small BarBQ pits, 2 fire pits (stones stacked in a ring shape on the dirt ground). There are 2 tables in the cabin and 5 outdoor picnic tables. 3 outdoor picnic tables are all together for big family or group outdoor meals. The Frio river is just down a path through the woods from the cabin. Now, on to the negatives. There was no hot water in 2 out of 3 showers until we complained and then 1 was fixed, so we had two. The hot water never worked in our bathroom and there was no shower head, water just came out in a thin, pencil like stream. The air-conditioner did not work in our room either so I called maintenance the first night. They did send a man out to look at it. The compressor was running even if the fan was just on so the ac would just freeze up and not cool. He replaced it with another one that kind of worked that evening. The next day, we finally got a working ac. The refrigerator in our room leaked water all over the floor. Then, the first night it rained hard. Several roof leaks started leaking onto a bed in our room (thankfully not the 2 we were using), the couch in my daughter's room, the ceiling in the living room and in the fireplace. I had to get up and move things I had on that bed. One of my expensive, memory foam pillows got wet and thankfully I moved my laptop bag in time. The next day when I told management, they just acted like in a hard rain roof leaks are normal. Hmmm, I am a REALTOR®, Home Inspectors would never think that was normal, slum lords yes, home inspectors no. 1 or 2 of the electric burners on the largest (of the 3 small) kitchen's stove did not work. My granddaughter found a roach in her room near her bed the first night. I guess that since Neal's have been around so long, they can get by with lack of maintenance and still get people to rent their cabins. You pay for the cabin in advance of your stay. It must be 100% paid one week before. The rate we paid was $475. + tax per night for this cabin.
